Believe it or not in 2014 Idaho received the highest net migration from the state of California. According to an article in the Idaho Statesman, which used driver’s license data to track the migration, more than 7,000 former Californians now call Idaho home.

In many parts of California, Oregon, and Washington home prices are currently skyrocketing, with no indication of leveling off anytime soon. Data from 2016 shows the median price of homes listed in California were $473,900. The median rent price in California was $2,500. While the median home value in Boise, Idaho has gone up in recent years, in 2016-17 it averaged around $209,100. Average rent in Idaho for a 2 bedroom apartment was hovering around $955 per month. The bottom line is people living on the West coast can sell their homes and relocate to get much more for less money in Idaho.
